TeamMates Mission Statement:
The TeamMates Mentoring Program builds positive relationships to help young people reach their full potential
TeamMates is a one-to-one mentoring program within Lincoln Public Schools modeled after the progarm begun in 1991 by Tom and Nancy Osborne. They saw the needs of children growing up without enough adult interaction. These youth needed someone older who could talk with them, help them set goals and reinforce basic skills, attitudes and other lessons of life.
TeamMates Program:
- One adult to one student
- Meeting takes place during the school hours
- TeamMates meet one hour a week
- Minimum one school year commitment
TeamMates is active in the elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. Starting in the fourth-grade, students may be selected for participation in the program. They have been identified as students who could benefit from another caring adult in their life. Mentors are chosen from individuals, businesses, service organizations or faith groups.
Mentors are:
- Mature individuals
- Stable
- Positive role models
- Tolerant
- Empathetic
- Committed
- Good communicators
- Dependable
"Our young people face different challenges today. Issues that our young people face happen to them personally. If we are going to make a difference, we have to get involved with them personally as one-to-one mentors."
Dr. Tom & Nancy Osborne
